DH product design was formed in 2001 by David Henrichs and Magdalena Wisniowska, both graduates of Goldsmiths College. The first series of lighting products was exhibited as part of Designers Block in London. The limited edition Lightning, Ganges Delta and Hummingbird cubes all developed from this initial range. Made out of folded and cut sheets of metal, these aimed to transform the light quality of the then new energy saving lightbulbs by very simple means. With the support of Hidden Art, DH product design launched a new series of pendant lights in Milan in 2007. While the Milan products – the early version of the 3-Star and the Kelis – still retained the elements of folding and cutting, they marked the beginning of DH product design’s use of flat plastic sheeting. Subsequently, and with help of companies such as KYDEX, products such as the 3-Star were simplified, to consist entirely out of a single plastic sheet. The recycle-ability and increased efficiency of the 3-Star lead to its inclusion in the Eco-Design Handbook, published by Thames and Hudson. In 2008 both the 3 and 4-Star were included in Lighten Up, a traveling exhibition curated by [re]design, a social enterprise promoting sustainable actions through design. In 2011 DH product design launched its latest pendant light, the DELO 4.2 in Milan as part of the Salone Satellite. Once again featuring folded and cut metal, the DELO range is the first to explore the potential of new LED and OLED technology.
